Section 01
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website saves to your browser when you visit. They let the site remember things about you — your sign-in, your preferences, what's in your cart — so you don't have to start over every time. Some cookies live only for the current session; others persist for weeks or months.
Along with cookies, we may use similar technologies — local storage, session storage, pixels, web beacons, and device identifiers. Throughout this policy "cookies" covers all of them for short.
Section 02
How we use cookies
NairaGig uses cookies for four purposes — all explained in the next section:
- Keep you signed in and remember your basic settings
- Make the site work correctly (e.g. CSRF protection, load balancing)
- Understand how the site is used so we can fix bugs and improve features
- Show you relevant content and (rarely) marketing you opted in to
You are always in control. Strictly-necessary cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be turned off. Everything else is opt-in via the consent banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your mind any time from the "Managing your preferences" section below.
Section 03
Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
always onRequired for the site to work. Keep you signed in, protect against fraud and CSRF, remember your consent choices. Cannot be turned off.
Functional
Remember language, layout, dark/light mode, accessibility preferences. Turning these off makes things less personalised but the site still works.
Analytics
Help us understand which pages and features people use so we can fix bugs and prioritise. Aggregated and anonymised — we don't see what an individual user did.
Marketing
Help us measure campaigns we run on other platforms (e.g. Meta, LinkedIn) and only fire when you've explicitly opted in via the consent banner.
Section 04
The specific cookies we set
Here are the actual cookies NairaGig sets on its own domain. Third-party cookies are listed separately in Section 5. We keep this list current — if a cookie is missing here, it isn't being set.
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| ng_session | Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in across pages | Session |
| ng_csrf | Strictly necessary | Anti-CSRF token for form submissions | Session |
| ng_consent | Strictly necessary | Remembers your cookie-consent choice | 6 months |
| ng_lang | Functional | Stores your language preference | 12 months |
| ng_theme | Functional | Stores dark / light mode preference | 12 months |
| ng_a11y | Functional | Stores accessibility preferences | 12 months |
| ng_ab | Analytics | Holds A/B test assignment for the session | 30 days |
| ng_visit_id | Analytics | Anonymous identifier for first-party analytics | 6 months |
Section 05
Third-party cookies
Some of our partners may set cookies in your browser when you use NairaGig. We only allow a small, curated list and we only let analytics + marketing partners fire after you opt in.
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_* | Analytics | Google Analytics — aggregate usage statistics | Up to 24 months |
| _fbp | Marketing | Meta Pixel — campaign attribution. Only with consent. | 90 days |
| li_oatml, li_* | Marketing | LinkedIn Insights tag — campaign attribution. Only with consent. | Up to 30 days |
| paystack_* | Strictly necessary | Payment processor — fraud prevention during checkout. | Session |
Third-party cookies are governed by the privacy policy of the provider that sets them. Links: Google, Meta, LinkedIn, Paystack.
Section 06
Mobile app trackers
Cookies don't apply inside native apps, but a similar concept does: SDK identifiers and local storage. We disclose every SDK we include in the iOS and Android apps in Section 3 of the Privacy Policy. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs in the apps and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.
Section 07
Managing your preferences
On NairaGig
- Use the "Update cookie settings" button in the table-of-contents card (or the matching link in the footer of every page) to reopen the consent banner and change your choices.
- Strictly-necessary cookies cannot be turned off; everything else is opt-in.
- Your consent choice is stored for 6 months. After that, we ask again.
In your browser
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage cookies
Blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break sign-in and checkout. Blocking analytics or marketing cookies has no effect on functionality.
Do Not Track
Browsers can send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) header. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to it, but NairaGig treats DNT signals as an opt-out from analytics and marketing cookies.
Section 08
Updates to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect new cookies we set, new partners, regulatory changes, or just improved clarity. The "Last updated" badge in the hero above always shows the current revision date.
- Minor edits (wording, broken links, typos) — we update silently.
- Material changes (a new cookie category, a new third-party partner, a change in how long we store data) — we notify you via the consent banner and, where applicable, by email at least 14 days before they take effect.
- Continued use of the Platform after the effective date means you accept the updated Cookie Policy.
Together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, this is part of one consistent set of documents — all of which we may update over time using the same notice mechanism.
